Jewel Box Books: Life's Little Luxuries

We all need a little bit of luxury in our lives, don't we? Although "luxury" often equals "expensive," it doesn't always have to cost a fortune. Sometimes silence is a luxury. Or time to read. Or a bite of a delicious piece of chocolate.

Our Jewel Box Books series shines a light on the special categories of places that make a city even more unique and sparkling, like precious gems in a jewelry box. Paris, for example, is filled with beautiful and innovative chocolate shops. So we are producing a book in the series called Paris Chocolate for everyone who loves chocolate as much as I do. The chocolates pictured above are from Jean-Pierre Rodrigues of Choco au Carré. His creations are all shaped in elegantly chunky and satisfying cubes, and they're meant to look like small works of art.

Paris is also known for its enticing perfumeries. I love imagining people traveling to the city with an agenda full of shops from Paris Perfume that they simply must visit. More on this book soon!

There will be Jewel Box Books about urban oases for most cities, featuring wonderful spots to find peace and quiet. Oases can be pocket parks, courtyard cafés, library nooks, or even quiet stops within otherwise crowded environments—essentially places where you can sit, relax, eat a sandwich, and escape. The image below is the small and sweet Alpine Garden in Paris' Jardin des Plantes. When I see a person reading a book during lunch hour, it does something to my heart.

And speaking of books, we're working on Jewel Box Books about charming bookshops in multiple cities as well!
